Paige Souder I am currently adding some clinical/translational flair to the lab as a Pediatrics/Medical Genetics Combined Resident! I did my MD/PhD training at UAB in Birmingham, Alabama, had a brief stent at Baylor in Houston, TX during my PhD, and moved out to Colorado for residency. I joined Bruce’s lab to work on a project looking at early developmental changes in Huntington’s Disease (HD), a neurodegenerative disorder caused by a trinucleotide repeat in the HTT gene that presents in adulthood but has some early neurologic changes (particularly in myelination) that are poorly understood. We are specifically making a zebrafish model of HD where we are overexpressing the human mutant HTT protein in oligodendrocytes to investigate early mechanisms of myelin defects in HD. When I’m not in the hospital or the lab, I enjoy hanging out with my partner and my dogs, hiking the beautiful Colorado landscape, or catching a concert or a game downtown (go Nuggets!!).
