Kelsey, a 2nd-year CSD graduate student, joined the lab in July 2023. She is pursuing her interests in developmental biology by developing projects in neural cell fate specification.
Kim Arena and Caleb Doll attended the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Meeting on Zebrafish Neurobiology in November 2023 where Kim presented a poster and Caleb gave a talk. Kim also presented a poster at the Society for Developmental Biology meeting in Chicago in June.
Oscar Mendez traveled to Newcastle in August 2023 to attend the 29th International Complement Workshop.
Natalie Carey, Sam Bromley-Coolidge, Kadidia Adula, and Katie Ranard attended the XVI European Meeting on Glial Cells in Health and Disease in Berlin during July 2023. Here they are with our friend Uxue Balantzategi, who spent time with us during the first part of 2023.
Yan Zhou, a medical student on the research track, received the Best Molecular Genetics Poster Award at the 2023 Research Forum!
Katie Ranard was awarded a NINDS F32 postdoctoral fellowship in April 2023 for her project entitled, "Role of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in myelination during development". Katie has initiated an entirely new research direction for us on the impact of nutritional deficits on brain development.
Kadidia Adula received a NINDS F32 fellowship in April, 2023 for her project entitled, "Examining the role of resident mRNAs in myelin plasticity". Funded for three years, this fellowship will support Kadidia's investigations of mRNA transport in oligodendrocytes and their translation in response to neural activity.
Dr. Kim Arena was awarded a 3-year NINDS F32 postdoctoral fellowship for her project entitled, "Investigating the role of Wnt signaling effectors on the neuron-glia switch and OPC specification during development and after injury". The funding will help support Kim's role in helping lead our cell fate specification projects.
